Whenever I glance at mine, it’s like I can almost hear the pitter-patter of raindrops and the rustling leaves in my backyard. There’s a story stitched in every line and curve. I can’t help but feel, well, watered and nurtured!

Materials

  • Cotton yarn – size 8/4, in the following colors:
  • Light grey
  • Yellow Green
  • Pink, purple or colors of choice for the flowers
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Fiberfill
  • Hook number 2.5
  • Optional: Cardboard

Abbreviations

mr – magic ring
sc – single crochet in US (double crochet in UK)
inc – increase (2 single crochet in one stitch)
dec – decrease (2 single crochet in one stitch)
slst – slip stitch
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet (half treble crochet in UK)
dc – double crochet (treble crochet in UK)
BLO – crochet in the back loops only

Watering Can – Vessel

Use light grey color yarn.

Rnd 1: 6sc in mr (6)
Rnd 2: inc x 2 (12)
Rnd 3: ‘1sc, inc’ x 6 (18)
Rnd 4: ‘2sc, inc’ x 6 (24)
Rnd 5: ‘3sc, inc’ x 6 (30)
Rnd 6: ‘4sc, inc’ x 6 (36)
Rnd 7: ‘5sc, inc’ x 6 (42)
Rnd 8: BLO! sc around (42)
Rnd 9-11: sc around (42)
Rnd 12: ’12sc, dec’ x 3 (39)
Rnd 13-14: sc around (39)
Rnd 15: ’11sc, dec’ x 3 (36)
Rnd 16-17: sc around (36)

If you are using cardboard, place the bottom of the watering can and mark it on the cardboard and cut the circle. Place the circle inside, on the bottom of the vessle. This will keep the bottom flat.

Rnd 19-20: sc around (33)
Rnd 21: ‘9sc, dec’ x 3 (30)
Rnd 22-23: sc around (30)
Rnd 24: BLO: ‘3sc, dec’ x 6 (24)

Repeat the same process with the top of the vessel. Fill the vessel with fiberfill, before placing the top cardboard piece.

Fasten off, weave in the ends.

Handle

Use light grey color yarn.

Rnd 1: ch16, starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, 15sc, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Spout and sprinkler

Use light grey color yarn.

Rnd 1: 6sc in mr (6)
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)
Rnd 3: ‘1sc, inc’ x 6 (18)
Rnd 4: BLO! sc around (18)
Rnd 5: ‘1sc, dec’ x 6 (12)
Rnd 6: sc around (12)
Rnd 7: dec x 6 (6)
Rnd 8-9: sc around (6)
Rnd 10: ‘1sc, inc’ x 3 (9)
Rnd 11: sc around (9)
Rnd 12: ‘2sc, inc’ x 3 (12)
Rnd 13: sc around (12)
Rnd 14: 1sc, 1hdc, 3dc, 1hdc, 1sc (7)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Flowers x 4

Start with yellow color yarn.

Rnd 1: 5 sc in mr (5) – change to pink color yarn or color of choice
Rnd 2: ‘slst into the next stitch, ch2, 3dc, ch1, slst’ x 5

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Leaves x 5

Use green color yarn.

Rnd 1: ch6, starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, 1slst, 1sc, 1hdc, 2dc

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

  • Sew the spout between R10 and R15 of the vessel, making sure R14 of the spout is on the bottom.
  • Sew the handle opposite of the spout, between R11 and R20 of the vessel.
  • Sew the flowers on top of the vessel.
  • Sew the leaves between the flowers, on top of the vessel.
