Adorable Owl Rattle Free Crochet Pattern

Oh, darlings, do I have something special for you today! Picture this: a cozy afternoon, a little one’s laughter filling the room, and an owl rattle in those tiny, curious hands. That’s the dream, isn’t it? Well, I can’t bottle sunshine, but I can sure as heck help you make that owl rattle! This pattern is so delightful and surprisingly simple, even your cat will wonder why you’re grinning like a Cheshire at your crochet project.

So why an owl rattle, you might ask? Well, owls are wise, adorable, and – let’s face it – pretty darn fashionable these days. Creating this little hooter was pure joy for me; it was like each stitch was imbued with a dollop of love and a dash of magic.

Go ahead, give it a whirl; it’s the kind of project that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, just like a hug in yarn form!

Tools & Materials

  • Crochet hook size 2.5 mm
  • Wooden ring and rattle ball

  • Cotton yarn (1.8 oz (50 g) = approx 175 yds (160 m))
  • Teddy bear stuffing

Ch – chain
Sl st – slip stitch
Sc – single crochet
Dc – double crochet
Inc – increase
ITSS – in the same stitch

Yarn: color is optional (light green used)

Rnd 1: start with 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: (1 inc) * 6 (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (24)

Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (36)
Rnd 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) * 4 (42)
Rnd 8-27: 1 sc in each stitch (42)

Change the color between rounds 18 and 19.

Crochet another 1-3 single crochets so that you are directly over the color change. Fill the owl with stuffing and a rattle ball. Fold the owl so that the color change is to the side. Crochet the owl together with single crochets through both loops on both sides along the top.

Do not cut the yarn, continue to make the strap for the wooden ring. Start with a chain 1 and turn:

Row 1: make 4 sc (4) – chain 1 and turn.
Row 2-7: 1 sc in each stitch (4)

Cut the yarn and leave a long string for assembling.

Sew the strap around the wooden ring.

Fasten off.

Yarn color: orange.

Rnd 2: (1 inc) * 6 (12)

Yarn color: cream.

Cut the yarn and leave a long string for assembling.

Fasten off all ends except the last end you cut. Sew the wings on the owl covering your color cange on the owl and on the opposite side.

Embroider the beal and eyes and make the little fringes.

So there you have it, a sweet and charming owl rattle that will bring joy to any baby’s playtime. Crocheting this little creature is not only fun but also fulfilling knowing that you’ve made something special with your own hands for someone else to enjoy.

As I sit here holding my crochet hook and yarn, I can’t help but feel like the owl represents wisdom and knowledge – qualities we hope our children will possess as they grow up.

And what better way to start fostering those traits than through play?

So grab your materials and get started on this delightful project today!

Happy crocheting!
