Goodness gracious, have I stumbled upon the most adorable Christmas gnome pattern or what? As I was wandering through the web— you know, just my usual dive into the realm of yarn and hooks— this cute Scandinavian Gnome with its pointy hat and bushy beard just popped out at me. Honestly, I practically squealed!
Okay, so picture this: You’re crocheting this sweetheart of a gnome, right? You start off with that iconic hat—let’s go with a rich red, scream holiday! Then you work your way down to a fluffy, white beard. Almost feels like you’ve got Santa’s little helper on your laps! Phew, I can already feel the coziness through my fingertips!
The thing about gnomes is they’re not just for Christmas. Nope—these little pals radiate cheer all year long! But lemme tell ya, when December rolls around, having that gnome perched on your mantel? Just delightful. And making it yourself? That’s the cherry on top.
Trust me, with your crafty skills and a dash of imagination, you’ll whip up a holiday hit faster than you can say “ho ho… oh wow!”

Rnd 14-15: 18 sc
Stuff till round 14 slightly. The rest part of the piece doesn’t need to be stuffed. Then change the thread color every two rounds, alternating grey and white threads.
Rnd 16-28: (13 rounds) 18 sc
Fold the piece in half, work 9 sc, fasten off the thread, cut, leaving a long thread tail for sewing. In round 14 crochet 18 sc in grey color into front loops only.
Hat
Start knitting with three thread of white color. We will change the thread color every three rounds, alternating white, red and grey threads.
The amount of stitches depends on your knitting density and the body diameter. (24 stitches in 10 cm. The body circumference is 34 cm)
Got 2.5 stitches in 1 cm, that means we will get 85 stitches in 34 cm. Cast on 8 stitches using knitting needles. Lnot in turning rows.
Work 18 rows in stockinette stitch. The we will make one decrease at the beginning and at the end of every right side row.
Knit in this way, until there are two stitches left on the knitting needles, knit them together, fasten off the thread and cut. Fold the triangle we made in half and sew. Stuff slightly. Leave the lower part empty.
Beard
Cut a triangle from a piece of white fur. THe width of the triangle will depend on your body size – about 14-15 cm. The height of the triangle is (the length of the beard) 17 cm. Choose any length you like.
Assembly
- Start assembling the toy with the nose.
- Sew the nose between rounds 41 and 43.
- Sew the arms to the body sides at te same level.
- The beard should fit closely to the nose, forcing a field above it.
- The beard width should be enough to place it from one arm till the other arm. Sew the beard so, that the top edge was located at round 44 (except for the space where it is located above the nose).
- Sew the hat in the way that it covers the top part of the arms and slightly covers the nose.
